Just on that one beautiful sunny day you come to a standstill with the boat or one of the occupants becomes unwell. What to do in such a situation? In any case, make sure that there is always someone on board with telephone numbers of emergency services.
In case of emergency
Are you in an acute emergency? When you call 911 or 112 you will be connected to the emergency centre. You can also choose to call the coast guard directly, this number is 913. It is important to think about the following things:
- Who: (ship) name, person
- What is going on? (ship type, colour, dimensions)
- Where are you? (geographic position, shipping route)
- What help do you need?
- When was the last position or contact known?
Breakdown assistance
Are you dealing with (engine) problems that prevent you from continuing to sail? But is there no immediate danger? Do you have to be towed or is something else going on? Then contact a care provider in the area.
Since August 2020, water sports enthusiasts themselves are responsible for arranging breakdown assistance. Since 2020, it has been up to the person seeking assistance to call in roadside assistance themselves.
