Frequently asked questions about Polish yacht registration

What extra services does BlueWater Registration Services offer?

BlueWater Registration Services handles:

  • Company setup for non-EU owners

  • Certified translations and legalizations

  • MMSI applications

  • Document checks to avoid delays

  • Delivery of official certificates worldwide
This saves time and ensures a smooth, compliant registration.

Are there any risks or downsides?

While Polish registration is legally sound, some port authorities in non-EU countries may scrutinize documents more closely because of its popularity among foreign owners. Using a reputable agent like us and keeping your documents complete avoids issues.

What are the main advantages of Polish registration?

  • EU Flag ✅ — widely accepted internationally

  • Low one-time cost — no annual renewal fees

  • Fast processing — sail within days

  • Open to all nationalities — flexible structure for non-EU owners

  • Lifetime validity — for private use
This combination has made Poland one of the most popular flags in Europe.

Are any vessels exempt from registration?

Yes. A few categories (e.g. commercial passenger vessels, fishing vessels, inland ferries) fall under other Polish maritime registers. Recreational and charter vessels under 24 m must register through REJA24.

Is the Polish register publicly searchable?

Yes. Anyone can search the Polish REJA24 database using the vessel’s registration number, HIN, or name. This makes it easier to verify ownership or flag status internationally.

In what language is the registry kept?

The official Polish yacht register is maintained in Polish. However, we handle the translations and submissions for you, so you don’t need to speak Polish yourself.

What if my certificate is lost or damaged?

You can easily apply for a duplicate certificate. This involves submitting a short declaration and paying a fee. The duplicate has the same legal value as the original.

How can I deregister a boat from the Polish registry?

We submit a deregistration request and return the original registration certificate. A formal deregistration certificate will then be issued, which can be used to register under a new flag if needed.

Can I sell my boat after it’s registered in Poland?

Yes. When you sell the boat, you simply submit a change of ownership application to the Polish registry. This is a straightforward administrative process, and buyers often appreciate having an EU flag already in place.

Is the Polish registration valid for life?

Yes. Unlike many other flags, Polish registration is valid for life for private yachts — no annual renewals or inspections are required. You only need to update details when something changes.

What happens if I don’t report changes?

Failing to report updates may lead to fines, invalidation of documents, or delays in future transactions. Keeping your registration current is essential for smooth resale or inspection.

Can larger vessels (>24 m) be registered?

No. Poland’s system is designed for vessels under 24 meters. Larger yachts must register under Poland’s Maritime Ship Register, which involves different rules and inspections.

What are the naming and marking requirements?

Your vessel must display:

  • The name and Port of Registry (a Polish seaport)

  • Clear hull markings in accordance with Polish regulations

  • Proper labeling on lifebuoys and tenders
The name must be unique and free from offensive or misleading terms (e.g. “POLICE”, “RESCUE”, etc.).

Do I need to report changes to my registration?

Yes. Polish law requires owners to report any changes — such as ownership transfer, vessel modifications, or address changes — within 30 days. This keeps the registry up to date and avoids legal issues later.

Is an MMSI / radio license required?

Yes. All seagoing vessels must have an MMSI number and radio license. This can be applied for together with the registration, and typically takes 4–6 weeks to process. Once issued, it’s valid EU-wide.

Do I need to prove VAT has been paid?

No. When registering in Poland the Polish authorities do not demand a proof that the VAT has been paid.

How much does Polish boat registration cost?

The total cost is between €395 and €595, depending on the size of your yacht. There are no hidden annual fees for private yachts under 24 m.

Is a temporary registration available?

Yes. Once your application is approved, you’ll receive a provisional certificate in PDF that allows you to navigate legally while waiting for the permanent registration to arrive. And that only in one (1!) working day!

How long does the Polish registration process take?

The average timeframe is 1 to 3 weeks, depending on how fast the required documents are provided. We offer a free of costs express service that can issue provisional papers within just one (1!)  day — allowing you to sail almost immediately.

Do I need to deregister my previous flag before applying?

Yes. If your boat is already registered under another flag, you’ll need an official deregistration certificate or a letter confirming deletion. This ensures the vessel is not simultaneously registered in multiple jurisdictions.

What documents are needed for Polish boat registration?

The documentation depends on your vessel, but generally includes:

  • Proof of ownership (e.g. bill of sale, invoice, or builder’s certificate)

  • Copy of passport/ID or company registration documents

  • Technical details (engine power, HIN/CIN, hull photos)

  • CE certificate or equivalent for older boats

  • Previous deregistration certificate (if applicable)
These documents can usually be submitted digitally, making the process simple and fast.

Can I use a Polish-registered boat for commercial activities?

Yes. You can register your vessel either as private or commercial (bareboat charter). Commercial use is allowed as long as the correct category is chosen during registration. Many charter companies use the Polish flag because the process is fast, cost-effective, and recognized throughout the EU.

What types of boats can be registered in Poland?

Poland allows the registration of recreational and certain commercial vessels up to 24 meters in length, including sailing yachts, motorboats, RIBs, and jet skis. Both brand-new and pre-owned vessels are eligible, as long as basic ownership and technical documentation is available.

Are there any restrictions for non-EU citizens?

Non-EU citizens can register under the Polish flag, but they usually need to own the vessel through an EU company. This structure allows full legal access to Polish registration while enjoying the same rights and benefits as EU nationals. Most registration agents can set up such a company quickly and cost-effectively if needed.

Who can register a yacht under the Polish flag?

Polish yacht registration is open to any private individual or company, regardless of nationality. You don’t need to live in Poland or hold EU citizenship. Both EU and non-EU owners can register their vessel under the Polish flag — non-EU citizens typically do so through an EU company structure, which is a straightforward process.

How long is the Polish EU Flag Registration valid?

The Polish EU Flag Registration does not have a expiry date. Therefor it is valid as long as you own the boat!

Is there a maximum boat length to make a successful Polish EU Flag Registration request?

Yes, in Poland there is a maximum of 24 meters to make a pleasure boat registration possible. In the case a boat is over 24 meters we advise to make use of one of the other boat registrations we offer.

Can a citizen from a NON EU country register directly on his own name in Poland and without the use of a EU company?

Yes, Poland accepts yacht registration requests from NON EU citizens. Also San Marino accepts yacht owners from any nationality in the world!

Can the Polish EU Flag Registration be used for commercial boat registration?

Yes, the Polish EU Flag Registration is very suitable for commercial registrations. We consider it the most attractive commercial boat registration in the European Union. Boats under 15 meters do not even have the need for a safety certificate.

Which documents i need to make a Polish EU Flag Registration?

To make a Polish EU Flag Registration we need from you a copy of your valid passport / ID. If the boat is owned by a company we need the company documents and a copy of the valid passport of the director of the company. Also we need the original bill of sale / sales agreement or a notarized copy of it, proof of the dimensions of the boat (CE certificate, Builders certificate, Tonnage certificate, survey report or the boat manual)(one of these documents), Next we need a proof that the previous boat registration has been cancelled and a signed “Registration Authorization” which will be provided by us. As Poland accepts any passports of any country in the world we do not need to create a company first.
